JOIN US and make a difference! The best way to get involved is to become a member of a committee and help shape the Public Safety Telecommunications Profession. Currently, there are several options for you to use your talents and skills. You can expect to devote approximately one hour a month working towards the goals of the committee you are selected for. Meetings are conducted via conference call and no prior experience is required.
It takes many people to successfully plan and execute the annual APCO training conference. From organizing volunteers, recruiting and selecting instructors, and managing all of the audio/visual needs, there is something for everyone.
In the aftermath of man-made and natural disasters that devastated many areas of our country, public safety communications centers have faced tremendous challenges. TERT involves a comprehensive program that includes assistance to individual states in developing programs that would lead to the establishment of predetermined and selected trained teams of individuals who can be mobilized quickly and deployed to assist communications centers during disasters.
The committee serves as a "welcome wagon" to new chapter members and remain an open resource to all members. Members of the committee would be expected to engage with the latest chapter members and answer any inquiries. Committee members would also keep an open relationship with agency representatives throughout the chapter to follow up and report on personnel/agency recognitions which may be communicated during chapter meetings or relayed to the newsletter and social media communities.
This committee works with our legislative consultant to educate and advocate for improvements to our working conditions. Committee members contact legislators, organize our members, and sometimes travel to Tallahassee to make impactful statements to members of the House and Senate. If you have a passion to make a difference in our profession, come join us.
This committee works to keep our membership informed, energized, and educated about FL-APCO, training opportunities, and industry-specific resources. The committee manages the website, social media posts, and distributes information to our membership. If you are a creative and enthusiastic person come and join the committee.
Providing superior training for all PSTs in Florida is the main purpose of this committee. We work closely with the FL Department of Health and provide many resources for members who are working towards taking their certification test. If teaching and curriculum development are among your areas of expertise this may be the committee for you.
